Goals and Plans for 2013-2014
Amber Hooper, Oak Park River Forest High School, Oak Park, IL 1. Improve the Abe program through more booktalks in the classroom, kick-off party during teen-read week, and voting party....maybe t-shirts?
2. Improve collaboration with teachers and divisions by integrating myself into their teacher collaboration meetings on Wednesday mornings (TCTs). Specifically with the groups that could benefit the most from having a librarian as a part of their team (Junior English teachers, History Teachers, and others that might not think of us like World Languages). Ann and I plan to split up and sit with these teachers for a few months then move onto a different group. Hopefully integrating more information literacy skills into their curriculum (and more trips to the library) 3. I personally am going to try to read more so that my readers' advisory improves.
Andrea Perrin, Woodland Middle School, Gurnee, IL 1.With the idea I got from you [Erin], I am planning to start a creative wriring magazine at my school. 2. We are also implementing QR codes to tie fiction with non-fiction (to support Common Core) and eBooks for student check out.
Karen Dixon, Lorca Elementary, Chicago, IL For myself, one of my big goals is taking Common Core and AASL standards and mapping a more formal curriculum for primary grades, K-4. My older students don't need to be mapped so formally as everything ties into various class projects.
As this may be my last year in the library (I just got my Type 75 and will be looking for director positions starting in the winter/spring), I am planning on doing ALL the fun things I was always too scared or too tired to do while trying to keep my job =) I will be expanding my library centers and adding more technology (perhaps video, audio, and other multimedia involvement).
Sia P, Spring Wood Middle School, Hanover Park My goal this year is to integrate the library program with more classroom projects. Co-teaching. . .besides for book talks. Also, starting a student volunteer program, and possibly transforming my office into usable space.

We began our QR code integration between fic and nonfic last year with the Caudill's....but that is as far as I got. :( I will be expanding that while also working to weed outdated nonfic materials. Our school just got the go-ahead for a library make-over, so I will be selecting new furniture and finalizing construction plans to be completed over the next two school years.
Kari Stevenson, Putnam City Schools I'm moving on from elementary into high school again. I'll be a solo librarian with an assistant (thank goodness!). However, the program I'm walking into has been described by the principal and other administrators as not very student friendly. So it's my main goal this year to get kids into the library. That will include new signage, a bookclub, new furniture (thanks to my district!), a better website, FB/Twitter/Pinterest pages --- basically just an ovehaul of the atmosphere.
I also hope to make Freshamn Orientation interesting. No powerpoints -- I'm going to attempt to incorporate student's cell phones and QR Codes into some sort of a scavenger hunt and then sometime before the end of the year, have student's help me make a video for next year's orientation. This will be my second year. I introduced the Monarch and Bluestem books last year. K-2 I will still be reading as many Monarch books for them to vote on. I want to try and have the 3 - 5 grader's make book trailers using Animoto, on the Bluestem books they've read, and then QR code them to put on the book jackets. My goal is 100 per cent participation for voting.
My K - 2 I will be trying Tellagami and/or ScreenChomp for short videos on animals or plants depending on their teacher's schedule. I am trying to integrate more technology. Maureen Miks, Monroe Elementary School in Hinsdale I am going to change from a fixed schedule to a (hybrid )semi-flexible schedule using the Learning Commons philosophy. I am a k-5 building and am thinking of a hybrid schedule with k,1-2 fixed and 3,4,and 5 flexed with a 15 min fixed checkout.
My goal is to shift K-5 teacher thinking from library as fixed planning time to collaborative flex schedule with fixed check out times. This plan has to accommodate a solo librarian. I'd love to hear your students' ideas.
